Sports Ground

Location and usage

Hauxton Sports Ground is beside the A10 Cambridge Road, opposite the block of apartments at Hauxton Meadows. (On the map below it is marked as Hauxton Football Field – click on map to enlarge it.) If you are driving, turn in at the traffic lights.

Pavilion changing rooms

The new Sports Pavilion (phase 1) was completed in September 2020. This funding from the Premier League & The FA Facilities Fund and from The Amey Community Fund, enabled us to build the changing rooms, toilets and showers for two teams plus officials.

History of Hauxton Sports Ground

The Hauxton Sports Ground (formerly the sports field belonging to the Bayer Sports and Social Club or Fisons – if you go back far enough) is now owned and managed by the parish council (with effect from 8 September 2015). The Sports Ground is used mainly for organised sports, principally football, cricket and tennis. To achieve this the parish council has agreed partnerships with local football and cricket clubs. This joint approach has enabled, and will continue to enable, Hauxton to provide opportunities for sport, especially for youngsters, much quicker than would have been possible by starting up new clubs solely from existing residents. Other clubs or organised groups wishing to hire the pitches will be able to do so.

Football

We currently have 3 football pitches marked out, with different size goals to suit the appropriate age of youngsters playing.
These pitches are as follows:

11v11 – 90m x 53m, with 24’ x 8’ and 21’ x 7’ goals
9v9 – 66m x 41m, with 16’ x 7’ goals
7v7 – 56m x 37m, with 12’ x 6’ goals

Most organised junior football is played at Hauxton Sports Ground, through the partnership between Hauxton and Whittlesford Warriors junior football club. These matches take place most Saturday mornings during the football season, ie September to May. Shelford & Stapleford Strikers also play here on Saturday mornings using the 9v9 and 11v11 pitches.

The Warriors draw youngsters from around the local villages, including Hauxton itself, and have teams grouped by age from under 5 through to under 9 playing at the Lawns recreation ground at Whittlesford, and the under 10, under 11, under 14 and under 15 teams playing at Hauxton Sports Ground. It is hoped to bring older age teams to Hauxton in the future.

Adult football teams will be welcomed at the Sports Ground. Please contact the Gary Page on pagegj@btinternet.com for more information.
For more information and how to join the Whittlesford Warriors FC click here: Whittlesford Warriors

NB. There are also goals on the Church Road recreation ground (16′ x 6′ for 7v7) and Mini Soccer ones on the Willow Way recreation ground for younger players.

Disability Football

The Football Clubs that play at Hauxton Sports Ground are inclusive and would welcome any player with a disability. If you are interested in playing or training with a specific disability team, however, you may want to look at what is happening across the wider area. You can find more information here.

Cricket

The cricket square was built in 2019, and was funded by a grant from Sport England.

For the 2021 season, we now have a new club standard practice net with artificial surface. This is available for hire by clubs and by individual residents. Use of the net is free of charge to Hauxton residents.

The artificial surface for the practice net was funded by the Mick George Sport Fund in Partnership with Living Sport.

If you are interested in becoming involved, would like to take part, or you just want to know more, please contact Pondori Kurade on pkurade@gmail.com.
